The true story of Tekashi, the rapper who gave thousands of dollars to Cubans

Mexico City, Mexico.- Tekashi 6ix9ine it is almost impossible for him to go unnoticed: the hair with different colors, the tattoos on his face, and many hundred dollar bills in his hands that he distributes to whoever crosses his path.

At the end of March, the lucky ones to receive the gifts from the young rapper were Cubans, mostly residents of Viñales, in Pinar del Río, where the rapper recorded his latest song.

As confirmed by himself on his networks would have given some 50 thousand dollars to people in Cuba who needed it. The 26-year-old boy was surprised to learn that some Cubans charged the equivalent of 14 dollars a month and saw with his own eyes the precariousness with which he lives on the island.

Due to his generosity, Tekashi has been seen on the island as a kind of urban Robin Hood who takes American bills from his pockets and gives them to poor people who are lucky enough to run into him. In fact, not only in Cuba has the rapper given money to strangers. This is standard practice for him. Just a few months ago he gave a million Mexican pesos (about $50,000) to a low-income Aztec family in Yucatan.

The young man grew up with a single mother and subjected to all kinds of economic difficulties, so he understands what poverty looks like. He met his biological father when he was nine years old and then he disappeared. When Daniel was 13, his stepfather, the man who took care of him, died.

He began his career in music very young. We are talking about the year 2014, when she released the single ’69 ′. From the beginning her music was characterized by ‘aggressive’ raps and anime videos.

Three years later, the artist achieved success. His song “GOOBA” broke YouTube’s record for the most viewed hip-hop video in 24 hours. Then his single “Gummo” peaked at number 12 on the Billboard Hot 100. His career was going from strength to strength until he faced the consequences of his actions.

The singer is not only known for his decision to share his money with strangers. This Robin Hood was also a gang member involved in dissimilar crimes, he has been accused of all kinds of violence against women and today he is free because he betrayed other criminals.

Tekashi’s Conflicts

The first time in 2015, Tekashi 6ix9ine was accused of sexual abuse of minors for having relationships with a 13-year-old teenager when he was already 18. He also uploaded the sex video to networks. Although he was not jailed for said crime, he served four years on probation. This would hardly be the first point in a long criminal record.

Then in 2018 he was arrested for gun possession, drug trafficking, armed robbery, violence, and firearm crimes. The rapper was linked to the gang identified as Nine Trey Gangster Bloods, known for his extreme violence.

If today the rapper is free and not serving the sentence of more than 40 years to which he was going to be sentenced, it was because he negotiated with the judicial authorities and provided valuable information about the gang.

Finally he spent only two years in prison and was released. The authorities offered him a witness protection program, but Tekashi refused, deciding to pursue a public life and continue his career.

Similarly, he has been accused of attempted murder and domestic violence against his ex-partner Sara Molina.

Although many did not believe that he would be able to raise his career, after his multiple run-ins with the law, the New Yorker of Latino descent is doing it.
