The proposal must have the approval of the Senate and will hold office for 8 years.
“Graduated from UNAM in Economics, with a specialization in monetary and financial economics, he has a solid academic foundation and extensive experience to fulfill this responsibility,” the Treasury said in a statement.
“He has 20 years of experience in the analysis of monetary policy issues, financial administration, public and banking finance, government treasury and infrastructure projects,” he added.
Who is Omar Mejia Castelazo?
Mejía Castelazo studied Economics at UNAM and has two decades of experience in the analysis of monetary policy, financial management, public and banking finance, government treasury and infrastructure projects.
Among the positions of high responsibility that he has held are that of Under-Treasurer of the Federal Government and General Director of Financial Administration of the Government of Mexico City, reported the Treasury.
He has carried out research projects and published various articles on monetary policy, public finance and financial inclusion.
Since 2019, he has served as advisor to the Banxico Governing Board, where he has analyzed economic-financial information, risk scenarios of the economic situation and current issues for monetary policy decision-making, as well as matters related to commercial banking, credit, payment system and issuance of banknotes and coins, said the agency.
