The mayor of Montevideo, Carolina Cosse, participated in the meeting of the Consultative Council for Urban Public Transport, which was held on Tuesday, July 26, at the headquarters of the departmental government. In this meeting, representatives of the Intendancy made a presentation of the state of the sector, what has been done during the pandemic in terms of contributions from all the actors to cope with the situation and the perspectives for 2023.
The Council’s mission is to receive and evaluate proposals to improve the quality of public passenger transport in the city. It is made up of representatives from the Mobility Department of the Intendancy; of the Mobility Commission of the Departmental Board; of the Ombudsman for Neighbors and Neighbors; of workers and collective transport companies; and the Coordinator of Users of Public Transport.
The Council works on different projects to continue improving the service of the Metropolitan Transport System (STM).
Current projects
Under his orbit, a cleaning protocol for the units was drawn up, the volume of on-board radios was regulated and the activity of street vendors and street artists was regularized, among other actions.
Mention was also made of the actions carried out by the ABC Plan, in order to bring public transport closer to the people with the modification and creation of lines, and the implementation of the protocol for dealing with situations of sexual harassment in public transport. .
Mayor Cosse emphasized the greener Montevideo environmental strategy and the importance of all the actors represented there to contribute, as well as the contribution of public transport to sustainable mobility, with fewer CO2 emissions into the environment.
In this instance, it was agreed, in turn, that the members of the Council present the topics that they would be interested in addressing.
