With the signing of Start Certificate of the Concession Contract for the First Férrhea App of Colombiathe Petro government advances in its commitment to boost load mobility and the transition to a more sustainable transport system.
“The train returns to Colombia and our bet goes beyond the nostalgia to see it again transit by the rails; it is a modern and necessary solution for a country that needs to connect better, reduce its emissions and generate development in the forgotten regions”said Óscar Torres Yarzagaray, president of the ANI.
With an investment of $ 3.4 billion and according to the schedulein the next 15 months the pre-construction phase will be advanced in which the studies and designs in detail, the plan of works and property acquisition, among other activities will be carried out.
Once this stage is completed, the central railway concession will start with the 49 -month construction phase that includes a comprehensive intervention on the road and its components that include the rehabilitation of the iron superstructure, maintenance of 98 bridges, rolling material (4 locomotives), installation of trains signaling and control system, the reconstruction of 2 railway workshops and the implementation of a platform Intermodal in La Dorada with capacity of 0.8 million tons/year.
This strategic work will expand the load capacity of 2.8 million to 5.5 million tons/year, and reduce logistics costsbecoming a spine of the national iron system between the center of the country and the ports of the Colombian Caribbean.
The generation of more than 2,000 direct and indirect jobs is expected, energizing the local economy in the 25 municipalities of the departments of Caldas, Antioquia, Santander, Bolívar and Cesar.
