The traditional Cumbia of the Caribbean is declared a national heritage

In the midst of celebrating National Festival of Cumbia, held at El Banco (Magdalena), the Minister of Culture, Patricia Ariza declared traditional Cumbia from the Colombian Caribbean as Cultural Patrimony of the Nation.

In order to obtain this declaration, both the communities and the local and departmental administrations, together with the José Barros Palomino Foundation (festicumbia), they had to develop the Special Safeguard Plan (PES), where the bearers of this tradition and cultural managers were the protagonists.

Cumbia is the heritage of all Colombians and of all Colombian women, it deserves a place in the history of Colombia and an important consideration in the culture. Cumbia is a true heritage of El Banco, of Colombia, of Latin America and hopefully, one day it will be a heritage of humanity,” said the minister of the culture portfolio.
