Of living traditions, charming landscapes and a deep pride in its roots.

News Colombia.

In the heart of Tolima, a few kilometers from Ibagué, is Suárez, a municipality that combines history, natural beauty and a deep sense of regional identity. Its origin dates back to the times of the Antioquia colonization, when it was founded under the name of Santa Rosa de Lima. However, its current name pays tribute to former president Marco Fidel Suárez, in a gesture of recognition of his political and educational legacy, made official on May 2, 1930.

This picturesque municipality is part of the 47 that make up the department of Tolima and is characterized by its temperate climate, its mountainous landscapes and its welcoming spirit. Its inhabitants, proud of their roots, preserve traditions that are reflected in their religious festivities, their typical gastronomy and agricultural work, which continues to be the driving force of their economy.

Suárez also stands out for its natural environment, surrounded by ravines, mountains and trails that invite rest and ecotourism. Visitors can enjoy walks to rural areas, where the biodiversity of the region can be appreciated and coffee farms are found that preserve the traditional architecture of the center of the country.

The main church dedicated to Santa Rosa de Lima remains a historical and spiritual reference point for the inhabitants. Every year, during the patron saint festivities, the town is filled with music, parades and cultural expressions that strengthen community unity and reaffirm the sense of belonging of the Suarenses.

In addition to its religious heritage, Suárez has become an emerging destination for those seeking authentic rural experiences. Agricultural products such as coffee, bananas, cassava and corn are an essential part of the daily life and livelihood of many peasant families that live in their villages.

Today, Suárez is a symbol of resilience and Tolima roots, a municipality that, without losing its essence, moves towards modernity with tourism and cultural development projects. In its quiet streets, its green mountains and its friendly people, you can perceive the living identity of a town that honors its past while looking with hope toward the future.
