Recently, the fashionable economist Mariana Mazzucato gave recommendations to the president of Colombia, Gustavo Petro on how to deal with the diverse socioeconomic situations that Colombia is going through, in which the private and public sectors must work together.
In an interview with EL TIEMPO, the Italian-American economist pointed out that in order to reduce inequality, in regions such as Latin America, it is necessary “talk about creating wealth, about growth, about catalyzing investment in the business sector.”
For her, all sectors must be part of the transformation of a country.

Regarding Petro’s recent statements, which have sparked controversy in public opinion that, on occasions, the Minister of Finance, José Antonio Ocampo, has tried to calm down, Mazzucato pointed out that there must be coordinationthat is to say, a “National Development Plan that remains in writing, and the ministers will be able to discuss it.”
“Until it’s clear what’s going on, social media can be a very dangerous tool because it creates confusion,” he said.

The economist also referred to the plans of the Petro government to reconvert to healthy energies and eliminate fossil fuels. Which, according to her she said, is correct because you must have a system based on clean energy.
However, he explained that if Colombia resolved “stop that industry from one day to the next, it would not even have the funds to develop the infrastructure of the new energies. That is why we need a transition, based on a portfolio that plans public investment, and also private investment, in different areas.”
And, with respect to the situation of the dollar that does not stop increasing its price, he recommended to the president of Colombia that communication is centralized in the Minister of Finance Ocampo.

“The two priorities that I propose: order and prioritize the government’s plan among the various ministries about what needs to be done and how, and in the meantime, to avoid confusion, centralize communication,” Mazzucato said in dialogue with EL WEATHER.
