The first meeting of the OAS mission was with the President of the Republic, Pedro Castilloin the Government Palace. After the conversation, the head of state explained that he reported that some sectors endanger democracy and the stability of the country.

Subsequently, the delegation held a dialogue with the president of the Judiciary, Elvia Barrioswho told them that their visit to Peru entails a great historical responsibility for the uncertainty with which citizens live.

“In the end we have told them that they have a great historical responsibility because there is uncertainty in the citizen, because this affects the poorest”, he declared to the press.

“We have expressed our surprise and disagreement [por lo dicho por Pedro Castillo] because when it comes to strengthening institutions, you move towards an open dialogue but you cannot insult an institution, that generates a lack of credibility”, he added.

In addition, the OAS mission met with the president of Congress, Joseph Williams (Avanza País), which explained that he told the members of the High Level Group that there are frictions between the Executive and the Legislative, but clarified that the institution he presides over does not intend to carry out a coup. “We refer to the relations that exist between the Executive and the Legislative Powers and we influence the separation of power, rule of law, due process and institutionality. We told them that there are frictions and that they are strong, but they have not led us to a crisis, unless it is precipitated, and that there is no intention on the part of Congress to carry out a coup d’état. We are respectful of democracy and it was something we needed”, he stated to the press.
