The Senate Constitution Commission will review on Tuesday the project that lowers the quorum to reform the current Magna Carta to 4/7. The initiative, introduced by Senators D.C. Ximena Rincon Y Matthias Walkerand the independent Peter Arayawas pointed out by some sectors as a “third way” with a view to the exit plebiscite of the draft of the new Constitution, which will be held on September 4.
“We have presented this project of constitutional reform that already lowers the quorum to reform the Constitution before the result of the plebiscite is known, so that the Government has no excuse to comply with the program committed to citizenship,” said the senator walker, slogan Radio Bio Bio.

The legislator alluded to the words of the Minister of the General Secretariat of the Presidency (Segpres), George Jacksonwho stated that the current Constitution contains locks that would prevent the promotion of some Government reforms.
Rincón: “It is essential to have a path”
Senator Rincón indicated that “the majority of citizens in all the surveys that have been carried out these days confirm that they do not like the text of the Constitutional Convention. And in this scenario, it is essential to have a path and that requires making it clear that Chile wants a new constitution, but that it be good and that it welcomes everyone.”
“We believe that the project will be well received in Parliament, which seeks to resolve the scenarios that are presented to the Government, which has argued through its minister Jackson that it cannot advance in the transformations that the country needs. For this reason, we hope that the reform that lowers the quorum will be approved between this week and the next”, he pointed out.
Support from Chile Let’s go
Let us remember that after the presentation of the project, the parties of Chile Vamos -which are going for the Rejection in the face of the plebiscite- gave their support to the motion.
Senator and President of RN, Francisco Chahuansaid at that time that “they already have us. We announced that we are going to support the reduction of the quorum to ensure a new Constitution for Chile.”
Meanwhile, Senator Luciano Cruz Coke (Evópoli) stated that from their community they will support the proposal. “It seems to me that the quorum reduction provision that today, at least I commit to, from Evópoli points precisely to that direction, so we are going to join that indication,” he said.
For his part, the president of the UDI, Javier Macayawrote via Twitter: “Very well! All of Chile is up. First step to enable a new road. From the @udipopular We support this constitutional reform and commit support so that a new constitutional hope can be born that unites the country and does not divide it”.
