Two years after the discovery of the body of the 3-year-old boy who was intensely searched for 9 days in the town of Caripilun, a firefighter from the Arauco Fire Department, in the Biobío Region, delivers a revealing statement about the difficulties they faced in the search and the importance of new aerial images captured by FACH.
The firefighter who found Tomasito’s body shared his testimony before the Prosecutor’s Office in April 2021.
In his account, he described the complications of searching in a rural area with difficult geography. According to the volunteer, the search leaders were not experts in open places with that geography, which made the process difficult.
The report also revealed a report showing aerial images captured by the FACH during the search. These images are of high definition and were not analyzed in the immediacy of the case. Its timely review could have been key to finding the child in less time.
According to a report presented by the PDI, a figure could be seen at a distance of six meters from the place where the boy’s body was found.
The figure had approximate dimensions of 30 centimeters long, 20 centimeters wide, and a height of between 60 and 69 centimeters, and did not appear to be a fixture of the place.
The measurements were similar to those of the child, but the report was inconclusive, so more results were expected.
It is important to note that the latest autopsy report indicates that the boy’s death occurred between five and seven days after his disappearance, being more likely that it was in the five days prior to his discovery, which occurred on February 26. The images captured by the FaCh are within that range, since they were taken on February 21.
