Chileans accuse World Cup Ecuador of improper alignment of Byron Castillo
The Court of Arbitration for Sport (TAS) will hear the appeal of the Chilean Football Federation on November 4 and 5 against FIFA’s decision to allow Ecuador to play in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. FIFA dismissed Chile’s complaint against Ecuador for improper alignment of right back Byron Castillowith the argument that he was born in Colombia.

Castillo, who plays for the Lion of Mexico, played with the Ecuadorian team 8 games in the South American qualifying league for the World Cup, including 2 against Chile. Ecuador obtained a place for the World Cup by qualifying in fourth place, while Chile finished 7th.
Ecuador denied that Byron Castillo’s alignment was improper. A source told the Reuters agency that the TAS has asked the player to appear at the hearing. The TAS is expected to make a decision on November 10. The World Cup starts on the 20th.
