The country’s highest court will resume activities starting next Tuesday. The Court’s official version was that the end of the strike was due to the fact that the plenary “took note of what was agreed by the colleges of secretaries, as well as Young Law Students and New Professionals of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN), regarding lifting the suspension of work as of the publication in the Official Journal of the Federation of the decree of constitutional reform on the Judiciary”.
However, ministers who were present at the private session pointed out that no alleged agreement of professionals or workers of the Court was put up for consideration, but rather It was a decision made when it was seen that there was no longer any point in stopping the work.
.
So far, the SCJN has not issued any statement regarding the approval of the judicial reform by Congress or local legislatures, nor has the president of the highest court, Norma Piña Hernández.
Last Monday, during a meeting with young students, the president of the Judicial Branch of the Federation also pointed out that if she were to issue an opinion would be unable to resolve these issues
since it considered it highly likely that through an action of unconstitutionality, an amparo or a constitutional controversy” a discussion could take place in the full Court.
Regarding the discussion within this power on the return to activities, Minister Yasmín Esquivel Mossa stated that the ministers unanimously voted in favor of reactivating work, after she proposed to her peers on August 27 before the minutes of the previous session were read and approved, to put to a vote of this full court that, in light of the fact that the Court workers have demonstrated in support of their colleagues, we do not hold the session, which is also a way of striking, working
.
Since then, the plenary has not dealt with matters within its jurisdiction, and yesterday, after a majority of local congresses approved the reform, and the first chamber of this institution did meet, the private meeting was held in which it was finally approved to return to activity.
In its statement, the Court noted that The President Minister, Norma Lucía Piña Hernández, called a session for next Tuesday, September 17; the plenary determined that this Friday the 13th the necessary guards will be maintained and the processing of urgent matters will be carried out according to the criteria of the ministers who are responsible for providing services within the scope of their competence.
.
After the vote, Esquivel Mossa declared in an interview that within the Court all members, that is to say the 11 ministers, always act with respect even when their positions are different, after being asked if the strike and the protests had not generated a climate of confrontation between the ministers.
