The subsidiary’s coach, Sergi Barjuan, will provisionally take over Barcelona after the dismissal of coach Ronald Koeman and pending the appointment of a new coach, the Barça club reported on Thursday.
“Sergi Barjuan, current Barça B coach, will temporarily take over the technical direction of the first team,” the Barça club said in a statement.
Barjuan will be in command, until “the club closes the hiring of a new coach,” after Koeman’s dismissal, the note adds.
The interim coach is scheduled to appear before the media on Friday, accompanied by President Joan Laporta, concludes Barça.
Barjuan, 50, was part of the ‘Dream Team’ of the 1990s led by Johan Cruyff and of which the dismissed Koeman was also a member.
After practically a decade wearing the Barça shirt, Barjuan played three seasons at Atlético de Madrid before hanging up his boots.
After ending his playing career, Sergi Barjuan coached teams such as Almería, Mallorca or the Chinese Hangzhou Greentown until last June he took over the Barça subsidiary to replace Francisco García Pimienta.
Barcelona dismissed coach Ronald Koeman on the night from Wednesday to Thursday after losing 1-0 at Rayo Vallecano and is now looking for a replacement who, according to the media, will be Barça legend Xavi Hernández.
