Santo Domingo.- This February 27, National Independence Day, the people are waiting for the traditional rendering of accounts by the President Luis Abinader. As this happens, various groups in the streets are divided between those who ask for 4 more years for the current government and those who decided to take advantage of the day so that their requests are heard.
While different sectors are calm, typical of a holiday in the capital, avenues such as Independencia, Winston Churchill and the vicinity of the National Congress are packed with people, who with flag in hand, whistles, posters and drinks, dance to the rhythm of drums and shout at the top of their lungs “4 more years for Abinader”, while the authorities try to maintain control of the situation.

Likewise, others expressed their expectations for today’s speech, “I know that the President has many good words, related to his commitment to democracy, electricity, the cost of living, the elderly, pensioners, education and health”, said a man, who with a sign on his forehead expressed his full support for the government.
However, there is another scenario on Avenida 27 de febrero, where a group of workers demand in unison “30% of the AFPs, a salary increase and a reduction in the basic food basket.”
“The AFPs have a robbery with the workers, Abinader today must stop playing blind with that and put an end to the issue by mentioning some benefit for the workers that we do not have any type of government support and we need him to pronounce himself in favor of us ”, expressed a member of the Dominican Federation of Workers Affiliated with Social Security (FEDASS).
For their part, people in areas like Herrera remain out of these situations, concentrating on getting everything ready for the different carnivals that will take place this afternoon in different parts of the country.
