According to police reports and judicial documents, the attack occurred on September 10 at the Downtown Suites Motel. Cobos-Martínez assaulted his boss, Chandra Nagamallaiah, 50, in front of the victim’s wife and son. Witnesses reported that after beheading him, the Cuban kicked his head before throwing it into a garbage container, and the security cameras recorded the scene.
In Mayarí, Holguín, his mother, Odalis Martínez Rodríguez, described the situation as a devastating family tragedy: “I wanted them to deport him to attend him with doctors here. The US authorities confirmed that Cobos-Martínez had a final deportation order to Cuba, but Havana refused to receive it, due to its criminal history in the United States, which includes sexual abuse of minors, car theft, imprisonment and assaults.
In tears, the defendant’s grandmother, Mayra Rodríguez, said: “It was a cruel murder, but he needs specialists, he is not right of the head. Hopefully President Trump is conduele and sends him to Cuba, even if they throw him many years in jail here.”
Cuban’s sister, Yerlenis Ricardo Martínez, also defended her brother: “He was my only brother. He was always working, he had no time for anything. He wanted to come to Cuba, but they never accepted him.”
