The first versions from local media reported that the alleged perpetrator was a fugitive from justice. The authorities even asked the community itself for information to collaborate with the whereabouts of this subject.
In the last few hours, new details of his whereabouts were revealed and other statements in the case came to light.
The Landázuri community joined in an emotional caravan to receive the body of the minor Liyen Cubides. After carrying out the corresponding protocols, the minor’s body was already handed over to her relatives and a wake was held on October 26.
According to the regional news outlet on its Facebook, it announced a march for this Monday, October 28, to repudiate the acts of violence that occurred over the weekend. This march is organized by students, teachers and parents of the institution where Liyen was in fifth grade.
Investigation into alleged abuse
Everything seems to indicate that, although he had the intention of turning himself in to the authorities, he chose to take his own life.
The mayor of Landázuri, Carlos Morales, confirmed the event, which has moved the residents of the town and revived the discussion about domestic violence in Colombia.
The testimonies collected by the police point to Elver Pineda, Liyen’s stepfather, as the main suspect. It is mentioned that he had had a heated argument with the teenager the night before the tragic incident. In addition, a local witness indicated that Pineda arrived at the house in a state of intoxication in the early hours of the day, which further complicated the situation.
Other versions also mention a video circulating on networks where Elver Pineda would have searched for black magic or witchcraft so that the minor would not be interested in any man. The words in the video are quite strong.
The search for the suspect culminated tragically when his body was found lifeless on a farm between the El Jardín and Corinto villages.
A close relative of Pineda said he had plans to turn himself in to authorities that morning, but was found before he could do so.
The authorities are also investigating whether the young woman suffered sexual abuse at the hands of her stepfather before the fatal outcome.
