The State of Nicaragua will increase the salary of its workers by five percent

The workers of the State of Nicaragua will receive a 5% increase in their salary this year, a source from the Executive Branch reported this Friday.

The salary increase will include both Executive employees and those who work in the other three branches of the State, said Vice President Rosario Murillo, through official media.

The measure will benefit some 160,000 civil servants, including, according to the first lady, 40,000 who work in the Ministry of Health, and 64,000 from the Ministry of Education.

To make the increase possible, the Executive approved an item of 1,600 million córdobas (44.1 million dollars) from the General Budget of the Republic, explained Murillo.

The increase in the salary of state workers will come into force as of January 2022, that is, it will be retroactive to the first month.

The average salary of public officials is currently 12,864.7 córdobas (354.6 dollars), which would rise to 13,507.9 córdobas (372.4 dollars), based on official figures.

Nicaragua expects its gross domestic product (GDP) to grow between 3.5% and 4.5% in 2022, the second consecutive year on the rise after 3 years of closing with a red balance, with inflation between 10% and 11%, according to the Central Bank.

In 2023, the Government of Nicaragua foresees a growth of 3% to 4% of its economy, with inflation of 5% to 6%.
