The state airline of Venezuela inaugurates an air route that connects Havana with Moscow

The Venezuelan state airline Conviasa inaugurated this Saturday a route between Havana and Moscow that “will allow the strengthening of tourist ties at the regional level,” reported the Venezuelan Minister of Transportation, Ramón Celestino Velásquez.

This operation had already been anticipated last February when the Russian Federal Air Transport Agency reported that the Russian and Venezuelan aviation authorities agreed that their airlines could carry out flights with a stopover in Cuba. Said agreement will be in force until the end of the 2024 summer season and, for the moment, the routes are operated exclusively by the Venezuelan airline Conviasa and the Russian Nordwind.

Last May, the Russian airline Aeroflot also announced that it will resume its commercial flights to Cuba as of July 1 as part of a closer rapprochement between Moscow and Havana.

The flight will have a fortnightly frequency, according to information visible on the Conviasa web portal, where it is ensured that this route is part of the destination expansion plan undertaken by the Venezuelan Government.

Conviasa announced last January that it expects to increase its international offer by 30% this year with the recovery of routes in Latin America

The Minister of Transportation announced, on May 30, that the connection between Cuba and Russia is route number 13 of the Venezuelan state airline.

Yesterday, Velásquez reported that Conviasa and Russia’s state airline, Aeroflot, signed a memorandum of understanding to offer more than 100 flight destinations.

The Ministry of Transportation indicated, in a post on Twitter, that this alliance will expand Conviasa’s reach to the eastern hemisphere and to the destinations offered by Aeroflot.

Conviasa announced last January that it expects to increase its international offer by 30% this year with the recovery of routes in Latin America and the incorporation of connections between cities such as Havana, Damascus, Tehran and Moscow.
