They lost to the Eagles 12-0 and with the loss of the Bulls against the Tigers 2-0, they sealed their advance to the Round Robin
The Stars made their advance to the semifinal series of the autumn-winter baseball tournament official yesterday despite losing to the Águilas Cibaeñas 0-12 in a game held at the Cibao Stadium.
The presence of the Stars in the Round Robin of the tournament that is dedicated to Don Tomás Troncoso Cuesta occurs after the setback of the Toros del Este 0-2 against the Tigres del Licey at the Francisco Micheli Stadium in La Romana, after the Dominican Baseball League (Lidom) confiscated a game from the Eagles. This situation led, prior to the start of that match, to the Bulls to be placed three games away from the important fourth position with only two games remaining. The Romanense team needed a victory and a loss for the Stars to stay alive and thus reach the play-in.
The game was won by reliever Carlos Peña (1-0), who pitched a three-inning game of four hits and one strikeout, while the setback was for Mitchell Lambson (0-1) with pitching work for only a third of an episode of one hit, three runs, two walks and one strikeout.
In the fourth inning, the Eagles mounted an eight-run riot. The first was produced by a single by Wilmer Difó; Julio E. Rodríguez hit a double producer of two; Luis González followed him with a triple in the fourth round; Yairo Muñoz doubled; Aneury Tavárez singled; Johan Camargo continued with a double, while Zoilo Almonte closed the attack with the eighth of that inning for a single. The Cibaeños returned to the attack in the ninth with another two runs, one due to a sacrifice fly by González and another due to a single by Luis Valenzuela. Meanwhile, at the end of the eighth, the Eagles managed two more laps. Difó hit the first on a single and Cade Gotta reached first on a fielder’s choice.
Quintana guided the Licey
Lorenzo Quintana hit a two-run RBI double in the top of the tenth inning to lead the Tigers to a 2-0 victory over the Bulls last night.
With their victory, the Tigres put their mark at 32-15 to be left alone in first place in the tournament, two games behind the Aguilas Cibaeñas. On their side, the Bulls now put their record at 18-31.
The Tigres end their action in the regular series with a doubleheader as home owner today, at the Quisqueya Juan Marichal stadium.
