Confirmed cases of covid-19 reached a record figure yesterday, with 20,959, the highest in the past nine weeks in which there has been a constant increase in the transmission of SARS-CoV-2.
The report from the Ministry of Health (Ssa) indicated that 42 deaths were also added, a number also one of the highest in the recent month.
According to what was commented at the end of May by Hugo López-Gatell, Undersecretary for Prevention and Health Promotion, the country is formally in the fifth wave of infections. The official commented at the time that this would happen when there were 20,000 confirmed cases per day, which already happened yesterday and after several weeks of slow but steady increases.
With yesterday’s data, the official record reached 5 million 986 thousand 917 cases of the disease, of which 325 thousand 638 have lost their lives due to serious complications of the disease.
Meanwhile, 117 thousand 847 people with onset of symptoms in the past 14 days were confirmed, and of these, the highest concentration occurs in Mexico City, Baja California Sur, Quintana Roo, Sinaloa, Yucatán, Colima, Nuevo León, San Luis Potosí, Querétaro and Campeche.
Regarding hospital occupancy, the Ssa reported that it remained at 6 percent for general beds and 2 percent for those with a ventilator.
The report of confirmed daily cases per week, on average, also accounts for the increase in virus transmission. From June 19 to 25, 11,147 were recorded, a week before there were 8,867, while in the last week of May the record was 1,983 people affected.
