Luis de la Fuente, coach of the Spanish team, has been chosen as the best coach in the world in 2024 ahead of Lionel Scaloni, coach of Argentina, and Didier Deschamps, of France, by the International Federation of Football History and Statistics (Iffhs ).

De la Fuente, who led La Roja to winning the European Championship in Germany, earned this recognition with 274 points, 126 more than Scaloni, this year’s winner of the Copa América and who was chosen as the best in 2022 and 2023.

The Rioja coach is the third Spaniard chosen as the best of the year after Luis Aragonés (2008) and Vicente del Bosque (2009, 2010, 2012 and 2013).

Deschamps, winner in 2018 and 2020, has remained in the ‘top 10’ for ten years. He is third with 35 points, nine more than the Englishman Gareth Southgate, and fifth is Emerson Fae, from the Ivory Coast (18), who precedes Julian Nagelsman (Germany, 17), the Argentine Néstor Lorenzo (Colombia, 14), the Italian Vincenzo Montella (Turkey, 8), French Willy Sagnol (Georgia, 6) and also Argentine Marcelo Bielsa (Uruguay, 5).
