The Spanish Film Festival opens its doors this Wednesday at the Yara Cinema in Havana with the screening of the documentary The flamenco guitar of Yerai Cortés (2024), directed by C. Tangana.
The event is organized thanks to the collaboration between the Cuban Institute of Cinematographic Art and Industry (ICAIC) and the Spanish Embassy in Cuba, pointed out Latin Press.
During a press conference, the cultural advisor of the Spanish embassy, Alicia Morel, highlighted the relevance of this cinematographic exchange:
“For Spain, Cuban cinema has great prestige; this exhibition is an annual milestone of our cultural programming, one of the ones we prepare with the greatest enthusiasm,” he stressed.
The inaugural film offers Tangana’s vision after meeting the guitarist Yerai Cortesa singular figure of contemporary flamenco. Fascinated by his talent and the history of his family, the director embarks on a creative journey with him to record an album.
The result, according to its creators, is a unique musical experience, crossed by passion, love and forgiveness.
Spanish film exhibition in Havana
The exhibition, which will run until November 13, will include 11 feature films and an animated short filmall produced in the last two years.
The screenings will take place at the Yara and 23 and 12 cinemas, two of the main theaters in Havana’s Vedado.
Among the selected films, Salve María, by Mar Coll; Black Butterflies, by David Baute; The Infiltrator, by Arantxa Echevarría; The jump, by Benito Zambrano; Afternoons of Solitude, by Albert Serra and The Little Loves, by Celia Rico, among other titles that reflect the thematic and stylistic diversity of current Spanish cinema.
