Storms are forecast for the South Region in the coming days. According to the National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet), new areas of instability are expected to occur between this Friday (13) and Sunday (15), with gusts of wind, rain showers and conditions for hail.
Instability is formed by heat and humidity and disturbances in wind flow at high levels of the atmosphere, associated with the formation of a broad area of low atmospheric pressure. However, according to Inmet, there is still disagreement about the intensification of this low pressure system that could give rise to an extratropical cyclone near the coast of Rio Grande do Sul.
The hardest hit areas should be the south and east of Rio Grande do Sul, with conditions for wind gusts above 60 km/h and possibly heavy rain showers. On Monday (16), the system should move to the high seas.
Alerts
In a statement, Inmet highlighted the importance of monitoring the emissions of special meteorological warnings in the coming days. “Pay attention to communications from your city’s Civil Defense,” he warned.
Last week, it came into operation in the states of the South and Southeast, the National Civil Defense’s new high-risk disaster alert system. Defense Civil Alert uses the cell phone network to issue free alerts, with text messages and sound warnings, to the population that is in an area of potential risk.
Alerts are issued by the civil defenses of states and municipalities to the population in areas with 4G or 5G network coverage and with an imminent risk of flooding, floods, landslides, windstorms, hailstorms and other situations. People do not need to register in advance to receive self-protection information, it will be automatic.
The Civil Defense Alert is for cases of great danger disasters. For less intense disasters, with less compromise to people’s safety, the other mechanisms, such as SMS, pay TV, WhatsApp and Google, remain in force.
