“He was the father of four children and was always at the forefront of the leadership of his reservation. In four periods he was president of the board of the village where he lived, he was an artisan at heart, of race, of the family”, expressed Alfonso Díaz Nene, senior counselor of the Regional Indigenous Council of Cauca (Cric), who regretted what happened.
He added that the man participated in a family party very close to the path in San Antonio de La Guada and when he was coming back to look for his family, he was hit by armed men. “We have this hypothesis that he was vilely and cowardly murdered since they would have fired more than 10 shots at him”, he assured.
The news caused outrage among the native peoples settled in this area of the country, due to the great esteem that existed towards the social leader for his contributions to the conservation of culture and art.
For its part, Indepaz explained that The Ombudsman’s Office issued an early warning for the municipality of Caldono, in which it indicated that this area is part of a mobility corridor for illegal armed groups and drug traffickingwhere the chain of production and commercialization of the coca leaf, marijuana and its processed products converge.
