The Simpsons It is an American television series that has been on the air for 35 seasons and in that time it has become a massive phenomenon that has been consumed by at least two generations worldwide. Along those lines, in Santa Cruz de la Sierra The exhibition has been open to the public for a few days now. Dear Marge, a series of artworks inspired by the popular yellow family show.
Are 35 works by 15 artists are part of this exhibition. The exhibition features a variety of techniques, from artist’s book recordings, painting, drawing, digital illustration, objects, photography and even a video brought from Argentina.
“There is a whole mix of media, formats and techniques that make the exhibition very varied, as are the episodes of the series themselves. We have all this possibility of having a range of different styles and artists. “I think the most fun thing about the exhibition is that all of them (the artists) are from different backgrounds,” explained Akira Ishu, curator of the exhibition and coordinator of the CACA Space (Culture, Art and Applied Contemporaneity).
Most of the participating artists are Bolivian, some of them are: Alfredo Coloma, Andrés Pereira Paz, Betzalel Maida, Carla Mendizábal, Douglas Rodrigo Rada, Kate Araoz, Matías Paradela, Maya Medina, Roberto Valcárcel, Tony Suárez and Valerie Monic.
But the exhibition It also features international artists such as Ryan Humphrey (aka withapencilinhand) from England, Felipe Flores from the United States, Nippashichan from Japan and Leticia Obeid from Argentina.
One of the works on display is by renowned architect, photographer and visual artist Roberto Valcárcel, who died in July 2021 due to complications from Covid.
“We were doing some kind of research on some things about Roberto (Valcárcel). We were researching a specific piece that we couldn’t find. And suddenly we found in a photo what seemed to be a portrait or painting of Homer (Simpson). And when we were able to approach the family and ask about this work, the possibility arose that they would lend it to us for the exhibition. The painting is called Homer“Ishu added.
The art exhibition is on display until September 5 at Galería Kiosko, Arenales Street # 315.
The Simpsons It was created by Matt Groening and produced by James L. Brooks. It was released in the shorts format in The Tracey Ullman Show in April 1987, and then debuted in December 1989 as a half-hour program on the FOX network.
