“He is linked to homicides, theft at the ATMs and the deprivation of liberty of 2 agents of the Secretariat of Security, which occurred in Álvaro Obregón, Michoacán, on September 4, also has at least 10 investigation folders for drug trafficking, extortion and qualified homicide,” said Secretary Omar García Harfuch.
The capture operation was carried out jointly by elements of the Ministry of National Defense (Sedena), the Secretariat of the Navy (Semar), the National Guard, the Attorney General’s Office (FGR) and state elements of Michoacán.
In July, the Ministry of Citizen Security and Protection (SSPC) announced the National Extortion Strategy, which seeks to contain 66% of the cases of that crime, which is currently concentrated in eight states.
The states where this percentage of extortion at the national level accumulates are the State of Mexico, Guanajuato, Nuevo León, Mexico City, Veracruz, Jalisco, Guerrero and Michoacán.
The National Extortion Strategy has the participation of the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) and the Ministry of Finance and Public Credit (SHCP) for the freezing of bank accounts where the charges of the extortion are deposited.
The national strategy against extortion is based on five axes:
- Generate arrests through research and intelligence
- Foster the creation of local anti -expiration units
- Apply the protocol for victims’
- Train 089 operators in crisis management and negotiation
- Implement a national prevention campaign
Since its implementation, federal authorities have managed to capture several people dedicated to extortion.
