The Sevillian of Havana

In the municipality ten of October, in Havanais the Sevillian cast. It is not the best known neighborhood of that Havana territory, but one of the quietest and most preserved, although it does not escape the impact of time and crisis.

Neighbor of other well -known neighborhoods such as La Víbora, the Sevillian also limits with the Arroyo Naranjo municipality, which is separated by the railway line. With about a square kilometer of extension, they also serve as a border in other important arteries of the area, such as the Vento and October ten footwear, and the Avenida de Acosta.

A good in Popular Council, the Sevillian cast dates from the first half of the twentieth century and was initially conceived as a middle -class residential space, with comfortable houses and educational and commercial centers for its residents.

It was not the most luxurious or wealthy neighborhood in Havana, but a quiet and cozy place, with parks such as Córdoba and the one appointed as the cast itself. There was also the well -known Villa Marista, founded as a school and sanatorium by the Catholic Congregation of the same name, then converted and until today in the headquarters and center of State Security Detention.

Although it still retains buildings in good condition, as vestiges of its splendor of yesteryear, the Sevillian also exhibits the effects of the prolonged economic crisis on the island. It is not only cracks on walls, sidewalks and pavement, but also of footprints of institutional and social neglect, such as the garbage that is piled pestilent in some streets and corners.
