The cry of butterflies, The new Star+Latinoamérica series that addresses the struggle of the three Mirabal sisters against the Trujillo dictatorship in the Dominican Republic, premieres today, Wednesday, on the occasion of International Women’s Day.
The story focuses on the lives of Patria, María Teresa and Minerva Mirabal, three of the most visible faces of the opposition to the dictator Trujillo. The Butterflies, as they called themselves, were killed by direct order of the “Goat”. Their bodies were found inside their vehicle, in what he tried to present as a traffic accident.
The series is starred by the Dominican actress Sandy Hernández (Minerva Mirabal), the Spanish Susana Abaitua (Arantxa Oyamburu), and the also Spanish Belén Rueda (Pilar Macías).

In the male roles, it has the stellar performances of the Cubans Luis Alberto García (Rafael Leónidas Trujillo) and Héctor Noas (his brother).
“I would define her (Minerva) as a very admirable and confident woman; a woman who, despite everything, follows her ideology and what she thinks and nothing will silence her. It’s not that she’s not afraid, but she blindly believes in her fight,” said actress Susana Abaitua.
Directed by Argentine Juan Pablo Buscarini, it is one of the most anticipated series premieres this week. It consists of 13 episodes of around 45 minutes each.
