The National Senate began its preparatory session at 11:20 a.m. this Thursday to designate authorities and set the days and times of the ordinary sessions, with a view to the start of the new parliamentary year.
Without the presence of Vice President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner, provisional president Claudia Ledesma opened the meeting by inviting the head of the senators of the Frente de Todos, José Mayans -recently recovered from a condition that kept him away from the Senate for months-, to raise the national flag during the intonation of the national anthem.
Once the Chamber meets, successively and by absolute majority, the provisional president, a vice president, a first vice president and a second vice president will be elected and, according to unofficial sources, the current occupants of those positions would be ratified.
The provisional presidency is occupied by the ruling party from Santiago, Claudia Ledesma Abdala de Zamora; and the vice presidency by Carolina Losada from Santa Fe, of Together for Change.
The first vice president is the official missionary Maurice Closswhile the second vice president is the porteña Guadalupe Tagliaferri.
In the same act, the authorities will be sworn in and the parliamentary and administrative secretaries of the Chamber of Senators will be appointed.
