The Senate of the Republic is already working on the call for the election of judges, magistrates and ministers, which must be ready no later than next October 17, in accordance with the deadlines established in the constitutional reform on judicial matters.
According to Morena senators, they expect that the Federal Judicial Council (CJF) will soon send them the number of vacancies for magistrates and judges, whether due to retirement or early retirement, in order to speed up the work and issue the call, which must contain the complete stages of the procedure, dates and non-extendable deadlines, and the positions in contention for the extraordinary election on June 1, 2025.
The first transitional article of the judicial reform establishes that this electoral process begins on the same day that the reform comes into force, that is, it began on the 17th, and the Senate will have 30 days to issue the call and compile the lists of candidates who will participate.
The work is going to be intense, commented Morena member Óscar Cantón Zetina, since all the ministers of the Court will be elected, half of the magistrates and judges, the two vacancies in the Electoral Tribunal of the Judicial Branch of the Federation and the five members of the Fiscal Disciplinary Tribunal, which is one of the two bodies that will replace the CJF.
He stressed that the Senate and the Chamber of Deputies also have a period of 90 days to approve the secondary laws of judicial reform, which are more than 70 and must be ready before the secondary election in June. In this regard, his co-religionist Saúl Monreal commented that since the beginning of the legislature they knew that they would have to work hard
since they have on the agenda the reforms of the so-called plan C of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador and those presented by Claudia Sheinbaum starting October 1st.
