The Senate began a debate on Tuesday, on the political conduct that has been Senator Grace Bianchi, member of the list 404. The motion was presented by the Broad Front in the Constitution and Legislation Commission in December 2021.
Asiaín made a defense of the senator. “The note presented by the Broad Front (FA) on December 7 is that it needs advice from the Constitution Commission.”
But “it turns out that the commission, which is advisory to the Senate, is not an advisory commission for a particular caucus. Then, the request urgently, on what grounds? We are witnessing this treatment of the issue when the request for reports has already been answered by the MEC, which gave it course because it understood that it was appropriate. Meanwhile, the senator and former mayor of the department of Cerro Largo, Sergio Botana, maintained that “Losses hurt and Senator Bianchi hurts what is worth. And she hurts them a lot because she is worth a lot.”
Bianchi’s “misconduct”
The senator for the Popular Participation Movement (MPP), Charles Carrera, maintained that “everything has a limit and the bench (of the Broad Front) makes this proposal -as a political matter- due to a host of misconduct by Senator Bianchi that damages the institutionality of the body”.
Juan Carlos Mahía, for his part, stated that “they have developed in a series of promotions of attitudes and behaviors that we reject. We parliamentarians have the immunity granted by the Constitution when carrying out our work (in reference to the privileges). But when the concept is confused with impunity in our actions, the things that have been described happen. The possibility of persecuting press professionals for their ideas, of persecuting union leaders for their public demonstrations.
