The Senate approved this Tuesday a reform to the SGP that would increase transfers to the regions

The initiative that seeks to reform the General Participation System (SGP) to increase transfers to the regions was approved this Tuesday, October 29, by the Senate of the Republic, in the sixth debate.

With a vote of 75 votes for yes and 2 for no, This corporation gave the green light to the project, which will now have to go through two more debates in the House of Representatives for the constitutional modification.

The initiative proposes to modify articles 356 and 357 of the Magna Carta.

Initially, it was sought to establish that the General Participation System of the Departments, districts and municipalities represented at least 46.5% of the Nation’s income. However, it was agreed between the different political forces, with the approval of the Government, that it will be 39.5%. Currently, transfers are about 24%.
