The Professional Cargo Transport Inter-Union met this Saturday with presidential candidate Guido Manini Ríos, who was accompanied by the National Director of Hydrography, Marcos Paolini, talking about the problems in logistics that are detrimental to profitability.
The sector, which involves “6,000 companies” and “47,000 trucks,” “provides direct and indirect employment to some 50,000 people,” X Cabildo Abierto said in its account after the meeting.
For years, transporters have been suffering from waiting times of up to 36 hours to unload at silo plants, a problem that is felt in every grain harvest in Nueva Palmira.
Drivers spend their time waiting using gas canisters to cook outdoors, sometimes without toilets, and sleeping in the trucks.
On the other hand, long delays are detrimental to the frequency of trips for transporters and farmers become nervous because they cannot count on the transport of grains as they are harvesting.
The bottleneck is generated by grain storage plants and port terminals.
