President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva celebrated on Monday (15) the choice of the film The secret agent as Brazilian representative at Oscar 2026in the best international film category.
In a post on network x, Lula stressed that national cinema “lives a great moment”.
“The Brazilian audiovisual lives a great moment, the result of a lot of talent, work and incentive. I am sure that the secret agent will represent our cinema with praise,” he said.
Last month, President Lula and the first lady Janja Lula da Silva received the team and cast of the feature for a special session at the Alvorada Palace. It was the first screening of the film in Brazil, which had the world premiere at the 78th Cannes Festival in France, in May, when it received public applause for about 15 minutes.
Directed by Kleber Mendonça Filho, The film accompanies Marcelo, starring Wagner Moura, during the military dictatorship. The technology teacher tries to start his life in Recife, but ends up plunged into a universe of espionage and paranoia.
THE Secret agentwhich has not yet debuted in national circuit, has taken several international awards, including the best director, to Kleber Mendonça Filho, and for best actor, for Wagner Moura, at the Cannes Festival.
