Brazil entered the Oscar 2026 competition with strength. THE Secret Agent was simultaneously nominated for Best Film, Best International Film and Best Cast Direction, while Wagner Moura received a nomination for Best Actor for his performance in the feature. On another front, the country also appears among the technical highlights: Adolpho Veloso competes for Best Photography for Train Dreams.
The list was announced this Thursday (22) by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, marking the beginning of the decisive stage of the 98th edition of the award and confirming a historic moment for Brazilian cinema.
Best Actor
Wagner Moura competes for the statuette alongside:
Timothée Chalamet (Marty Supreme)
Leonardo DiCaprio (One Battle After Another)
Michael B. Jordan (Sinners)
Ethan Hawke (Train Dreams)
The nomination comes after Moura won the Golden Globe for best actor in a drama, consolidating the performance as one of the most talked about of the season.

With Adolpho Veloso, Sonhos de Trem faces:
One Battle After Another
Sinners
Frankenstein
Marty Supreme
Best International Film
Appointed as favorite, The Secret Agent competes with:

It Was Just an Accident (France)
Sirât (Spain)
The Voice of Hind Rajab (Tunisia)
In addition to the international category, the Brazilian film is also among the nominees for Best Film, the main competition of the night — voting open to all Academy members.
The first phase of voting ended on Friday (16). More than 10,000 professionals from the film industry — including actors, directors, screenwriters and technicians — participated in the process, voting mostly within their areas, with the exception of Best Film, which brings together the vote of the entire electoral college.
The 2026 Oscar ceremony takes place on March 15, and this Thursday’s announcement is already causing a celebratory atmosphere in the Brazilian audiovisual sector.
