The 2022 edition of the New Bands Festival ended with an unprecedented result: a group not only repeated as a participant but also won that playoff. For Los Deloreans, the second time was the charm after having tried in 2018 in the competition that left Anakena as winners, who in 2022 were in charge of closing the entire event. This year’s result was a double champion, because the jury also determined that the Captain Mostacho from Barquisimeto deserved to win the festival.
The afternoon of Saturday August 13 in Caracas was dominated by rain but also by the music of the different proposals that took advantage of the two platforms arranged in the open air in the vicinity of the Chacao Cultural Center. The impact of Los Delorean with the audience was evident, as well as the good work team they have -perhaps the only ones on the day that had their own sound engineer. Captain Mostacho also activated the public between guitars.
One of the most groundbreaking proposals was the xanaxboy, of Maracay, unfortunately occurred in the rain and therefore with fewer ears willing to listen to them. Punto de Partida (Puerto La Cruz) made people chant their name, and Gran Celaje strongly impacted those who could see, too, how they took pains to make themselves known beyond the amplifiers with flags and stickers to distribute. Nina Romero delivered a solid, and among her attendees’ favorite, performance of her, and Cristal was able to unleash her pop explorations from guitar and keyboard, accompanied by a competent band.
On the same Tamanaco avenue in El Rosal, other experiences were lived, such as jumping to the rhythm of punk music at the Provea stand, or letting oneself be carried away by the relentless lyrics of hip hop promoted by Amnesty International. Within the Chacao Cultural Center, the spaces were opened to artistic performance, experimental music and the sale of collectibles, including vinyl records.
At nightfall, Los Frailes painted the stage of the main hall of the Chacao Cultural Center in colors before those who discovered that a fairly solid presentation was taking place inside, while outside the band Arrecho chewed rock. Then Caribano and Kreils put their Espiral to spin with transmuted songs from the 90s. Even Horacio Blanco danced with them on stage while the three kept asking themselves «Where is the future».
The farewell was given by Doctor No on the street and Anakena in the room. The winners of the Nuevas Bandas 2018 returned to the platform that then proclaimed them winners of that edition and offered a solid repertoire that found an echo in the voices of those who know their songs by heart and paid the ticket that, this time, had box office for the invited group to close.
Two bands must now take advantage of the prizes. In the previous press conference, a contract was promised with the Pepsi brand and another with Cúsica to record an album. Los Deloreans already have a full album released in 2020, the dancing lights, which was nominated for the Pepsi Music Awards, so they will have to prepare a repertoire for a second full-length. For Captain Mostacho, who has two singles published, it may be the great opportunity to produce his first formal plate.
Of course, the possibility of raising the winner to the stage of the Cúsica Fest next December as part of the invited bands must now consider that this year there were two winners.
A total of five thousand people gathered at the 2022 New Bands Festival, which served as a reunion with the street, with live music and with creativity. As that meme of the Argentine girl says: «let it be repeated».
