In the last hours, the authorities confirmed that Ricardo R.G. Castro23 years old, voluntarily surrendered in Cartagena for his alleged participation in the brutal beating that caused the death of Jaime Esteban Moreno Jaramillostudent at the University of the Andes. His surrender occurred after the Prosecutor’s Office announced an arrest warrant against him.

GC appeared at the headquarters of the Attorney General’s Office in the capital of Bolívar accompanied by his lawyer. According to reports, the delivery occurred after intense citizen and media pressure from public opinion, which demands justice in one of the most outrageous cases in recent months.

The crime of Jaime Esteban Moreno occurred at dawn on October 31during a Halloween party in the north of Bogotá. In the middle of a fight, the young man was attacked by several assistants and suffered serious injuries that kept him in the intensive care unit for several hours, until his death.

The Bogotá Metropolitan Police and the Prosecutor’s Office They continue to collect evidence, security videos and testimonies that will clarify the roles of those involved. The first suspect was arrested at the beginning of the week and González Castro is now expected to be transferred to the country’s capital to be presented before a guarantee control judge.

The case has generated national commotion and reopened the debate on violence among young people in contexts of leisure and alcohol consumption. Student groups and social organizations have asked for exemplary justice, while the victim’s family continues to demand truth and reparation.

“The surrender of this second person involved shows that social pressure does work. However, we will not rest until all those responsible are brought to justice,” said a source close to the Moreno Jaramillo family.
