“The sanctions no longer cause us fear, no concern,” says Daniel Ortega

The administration of Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo, on the afternoon of this Wednesday, April 19, met with Russian Foreign Minister Seguéi Lavrov, who is on a tour of Brazil, Venezuela, Nicaragua and Cuba. During the meeting, the Nicaraguan dictator took the opportunity to rant against the United States and the European Union.

“We feel happy today and very honored that you are in Nicaragua precisely today that we are commemorating the Day of Peace. It is a day in which we managed to give yet another defeat to imperialist aggression,” Ortega told the Russian foreign minister in reference to the civic rebellion of April 2018, where thousands of self-convened Nicaraguans took to the streets to protest against their government.

In 2018, the Ortega regime was in charge of repressing social protests; paramilitaries, shock troops and police officers attacked the demonstrators and left 355 people dead. The families of the victims continue to demand justice and reparation.

In his speech, the Nicaraguan president-designate also attacked the European Union, once again calling them “genocidal.” In addition, he pointed out that the recent declaration of the European bloc -where they accused the Sandinista regime of committing crimes against humanity- cost Fernando Ponz, designated EU ambassador in Managua, the suspension of the placet.

«The European Union issued a statement accusing that by this time we had committed crimes, that is, wanting to teach lessons, we had approved the pleat to the ambassador of the European Union, so we issued a statement with the Chancellor in which it was communicated that they They have been the ones that have caused the greatest damage to this people since they invaded all these regions, colonized them, enslaved them, and committed genocide against the original peoples. Given the circumstances, we withdrew the ambassador’s favor,” said Daniel Ortega.

Likewise, the Nicaraguan dictator referred to the sanctions imposed this Wednesday, by the United States, against three judges of the Judiciary and stressed that these do not cause any fear or concern among his sanctioned officials.

“The United States sanctioned three judges because they have applied justice against terrorists. We already have hundreds of comrades sanctioned, that no longer causes us any fear, no concern for our comrades who are sanctioned,” said Ortega, who on multiple occasions has complained about the sanctions imposed by the US government on its officials and has asked that these restrictions are removed.

In response to what was stated by Daniel Ortega, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, he stressed that “the people who are under sanctions in Russia think that this is recognition of their progress in protecting Russia’s interests.”
