About eight million people are expected this year in Rio de Janeiro to enjoy the most iconic carnival in Brazil, ecstatic with their majestic parades and dance without tiredness to the compass of the 482 planned street comparsas, according to data released this Friday by the Mayor’s Office.
A week that King Momo decrees the five days of Carnival, the authorities finalize the details so that nothing fails in the gigantic gear that will house the great national holiday.
Three days of sambódromo
From this year, the parades of the Samba schools will be presented for three days at the Rio Sambódromo, and not in two, as was done since 1984, when the immense track that rises on Sapucaí Avenue was inaugurated.
The idea is to have greater assistance, facilitate logistics, increase security and achieve a more equitable competition, because no school will parade during dawn. However, for those who wish to follow the party at the Sambódromo after the parades, there will be presentations of ‘Rodas de Samba’ every day.
A hundred parades
The city will have 98 Samba companies parading in the city, mostly for the two main catwalks for the party, of which 18 will be children. The sambódromo is reserved for the best, the 16 of the Gold series and the 12 of the special group, the latter, the cream and cream of the schools. The rest, which belongs to lower categories, will parade free of charge on the Magalhães Intendant Avenue.
About 500 street comparsas
A total of 482 street comparsas, considered the soul and life of the Rio Carnival, are responsible for lighting the party in different parts of the city. From a month before the party and free of charge, those who know each other in Brazil as ‘blocos’ fill the streets of Rio with music, joy and color.
A mass assistance
According to the mayor’s data, the Rio Carnival expects about 8 million attendees this year, of which the vast majority will be at the street party and about 2 million in the parades of the various categories. Only in the Sambódromo, the estimated public is about 120,000 people for each day of parades.
Economic injection
The city provides for revenues of 5.5 billion reais (one 964 million dollars) and the creation of more than 50,000 temporary jobs. According to the employer’s employer in the city, Hoteisrío, the hotel occupancy is at 90 % and is expected to reach the whole next week.
Security
A 923 agents will be throughout the Fluminense capital to control security, which will be reinforced in the areas of the parades. Only 100 cameras for real -time monitoring in the surroundings and 24 more inside, in addition to drones, were allocated.
