The second figures of our national squad will have the responsibility of representing the Cuban School of Boxing in the Pan American Championship of the discipline, which will be held this week in Guayaquil, Ecuador.
This is the first participation of Cuban boxing at the international level in 2022, in a qualifying fight for the upcoming continental multi-sport tournaments and that will distribute cash prizes in both sexes.
The world bronze medalist of the 86 kilograms in Belgrade 2021, Herich Ruiz, commands the team, which will also include the world champion Kevin Brown in 67, and the bronze of the 49 in the Lima 2019 Pan American Games, Damián Arce, now in the 54 kilos.
Meanwhile, Jorge Moirán will be in 63.5 kilograms, while Billy Rodríguez will compete in the 48, Alex Pérez will compete in the 75, Erislán Romero will fight in the 57 and Rafael Joubert in the 60.
For the latter, the tournament will be very important, because it is practically their international debut, and we already know that the opportunities for the second figures are very scarce, so they cannot miss the opportunity to show credentials and convince the technical group of who are ready to step up when needed.
Until next April 1, the competitors in the 13 male and 12 female weight categories will also try to be as high as possible to add points for the universal ranking, which begins to count for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
The brand new International Boxing Association (IBA) clarified that this ranking will benefit boxers in the draws for the most important contests, such as the Central American and Caribbean Games in San Salvador and the Pan American Games in Santiago de Chile, both to be held in 2023.
Therefore, the lists of the participating countries have already been announced and all will put the maximum interest in the fight thinking about the immediate future.
As is known, the main exponents of Cuban boxing continue their training at home in the face of a possible confrontation against professional boxers.
Nothing has officially transpired from the latter, but it is very likely that the Tamers will return to the scene.
