Lucy Mier y Terán, president of the Real Estate sector of the Guild of Services of the Lima Chamber of Commerce (CCL), explained that in 2019 the occupancy of these spaces was 85% on average, but in the following years it fell due to the pandemic and the measures adopted by the governments. Now the outlook is more encouraging, which is expected to reach pre-pandemic figures.
And although today we have an economy that has slowed down, the union representative pointed out that the ticket can vary between US$750 and US$2,000 per week, depending on the place.
“Sometimes friends or couples get together to rent and split the expenses. People have already started to separate the rent since October, ”she commented.
Properties on the beaches of Lima are highly demanded to receive the year, but those located in the north of Peru also appear, as is the case of Punta Sal, Piura and Trujllo.
“You have to take into account that people who want to rent a beach house are now looking for connectivity because they may not only stay the New Year’s weekend, but a few more days and work from there,” he said.
For his part, the former vice president of the Association of Real Estate Agents (Aspai) and representative of Tasso Inmobiliaria, Fernando Torres, considered that, for now, people prefer to rent rather than buy due to high interest rates.
“I have beach houses for sale and people call, ask for details, but the purchase decision is difficult. Today they prefer to rent, even in the case of real estate located in Lima”, she assured.
In his opinion, the rentals this summer will be mainly for one month, although there are those who are also looking for the season.
“We have returned to normal and people want to rent a house or an apartment on the beach again. The difference now is that they do it between two families, when perhaps only one did it before, ”she stressed.

IN HOTELS
In addition to the houses, those who are also getting ready to receive the year are the hotels. The president of the Women’s Association of Executives of Tourism Companies of Peru (Afeet Peru), Tibisay Monsalve, pointed out that in areas where there are beaches and countryside, 100% occupancy is expected.
However, the sector has other concerns that go beyond the end of the year party. The representative of Afeet Peru stated that they are “far” from recovering from the pandemic.
“We have an employability of between 45% and 50%, and that is terrible. The results of the week of the end of the year will not be enough to help the sector”, he stressed.
The problem, he explained, is the constant strikes and the fact that in Machu Picchu there are no entrance tickets. If the situation continues like this, “Peru will not appear in the travel catalogs of 2023″.
