For their part, the dictators Raúl Castro and Miguel Díaz-Canel, among other leaders of the Cuban regime, integrated the last guard of honor in tribute to those who died in the fire at the Super Tanker Base, the largest industrial loss in Cuba.
This Thursday, the island’s official media revealed the identity of the 14 firefighters missing in the fire.
The Cuban authorities counted a total of 16 fatalities, of which only two could be identified: Carlos Santana Garrido, who was a member of the Camilo Cienfuegos Refinery Special Fire Protection Command, and the young firefighter Elier Correa, 24 years old. .
Last Wednesday, the Cuban Government reported that it was “impossible to absolutely identify” the remains of the 14 people who disappeared in the fire at the Supertanker Base.
“What we have explained to the relatives is that we have 14 groups of bone remains that correspond to the 14 disappeared people,” Jorge González Pérez, president of the Cuban Society of Legal Medicine, said at a press conference.
That same day, Díaz-Canel ordered an official mourning for Thursday and Friday “as a tribute to those who fell in the line of duty during the fire at the Matanzas Supertanker Base.”
The official duel began at 6:00 a.m. on August 18 and will end at 12:00 p.m. on August 19.
