The remains of the Cuban doctor murdered in a clinic in Mexico will be repatriated

The body of Cuban doctor Ernesto Oliva Legrá, murdered this Friday in the municipality of Ecatepec de Morelos, in Mexico, during a shooting at the hospital where he worked, will be repatriated to the island. 14ymedio a source from the Attorney General of the State of Mexico, who prefers to remain anonymous.

For its part, the Cuban Embassy in that country has not offered details or the date on which the body of Oliva Legrá, who lived in Mexico as a refugee, will be returned. Nor has it provided information on the remains of the Cubans. Yaritza Rodriguez Bruzon and Tamarawho died in an accident while trying to cross the border into the United States, along with 15 other migrants.

According to the Mexican authorities, two armed individuals broke into the private clinic where Oliva Legrá worked, located on the so-called Encino corner, in the Tierra Blanca neighborhood, during the early hours of Friday. The assailants asked for a patient who answered to the name of Elizabeth and began to review the records. Oliva Legrá, who was on her way to the reception to find out what was happening, was shot in the head and died hours later.

The Cuban Embassy in that country has not offered details or the date on which the body of Oliva Legrá, who lived in Mexico as a refugee, will be returned.

After murdering the doctor, the subjects forced an employee to open the door to the area where the patients were located, on the second level of the clinic. There they shot a 21-year-old nurse, Abigail Tello, and a 56-year-old woman who was accompanying a patient. After executing both women, the assailants fled.

The Mexican Prosecutor’s Office opened an investigation folder for intentional homicide and injuries from firearm shots against three people. Five days after the events, it has not yet been possible to capture those responsible and the video surveillance cameras continue to be checked to try to locate the route taken by the murderers.

Despite the fact that Ernesto Oliva Legrá had been working in the private clinic for some time and had lived in Mexico for three years, no one has claimed the body. It was the relatives on the island who carried out this procedure before the consular office, the source from the Prosecutor’s Office told this newspaper. The health worker’s family has been contacted by 14ymedio through social networks, but have not offered any response so far.

As part of the protocols to follow, Oliva Legrá underwent a necropsy, the results of which will be delivered to the Mexican Foreign Ministry, which will have to decide, together with the Cuban Embassy, ​​the date for repatriation.
