Espinal, reported missing on July 30, was found dead last Monday in the municipality of Palenque, province of San Cristóbal.

She had disappeared after leaving her home in the Villa Olga sector of Santiago to take a friend to Los Guandules, in the municipal district of Hato del Yaque, according to reports.

Corporal Victor Manuel Saldaña Hernandez, known as “Julio” and assigned to the 911 Emergency System, is currently the prime suspect in the investigation of his death.

The investigation into Espinal’s death

This Friday, Judge Yeritza Cabral de la Cruz imposed a financial guarantee of 500 thousand pesos through an insurance company and periodic reporting as a coercive measure for the Dominican Navy corporal.

It should be noted that the measure was issued in relation to the illegal carrying and possession of a firearm, not specifically for the death of pediatrician Enrique Antonio Espinal Castillo, although Saldaña is linked to this case.

The defendant’s lawyer, Juan Carlos Báez, explained that the weapon in question was kept in Saldaña’s house and belonged to a friend.

He also indicated that they are awaiting possible additional charges related to the death of Dr. Espinal Castillo or, failing that, they will proceed with the liquidation of the precautionary measure.

Investigations by the Public Prosecutor’s Office have revealed that Enrique Antonio Espinal Castillo, 48, died due to blows inflicted with an object, although all the details of the case are still being clarified.
