The National Registry of Civil Status reported that in the fire that occurred at the headquarters of the entity in the department of César, no electoral material was burned because it is not housed there but in another place where the electoral cards and the E-14 forms are guarded to avoid any irregularity.

The statement was given after the report of the Valledupar Volunteer Fire Department, which determined that the cause of the fire at the headquarters of the Special Registry, It was generated by the explosion of three transformers that are located on the outside of the building.

It was also known that the affectation extended to the archive office and the warehouse, where documents were kept, but the material from the legislative elections on Sunday, March 13, was not affected.

The delegate of the National Registrar in the department, César Enrique Acuña Vergara, explained that The declaration of the election to the House of Representatives was held last Tuesday, March 22.

“The electoral material of the legislative elections of last March 13, and of all the previous elections, it is stored and guarded in facilities outside the Registry”, said.

In that sense, cleared up the doubts raised by the presidential candidate Gustavo Petro, who pointed out at the time that the Valledupar Registry was set on fire to prevent the Historical Pact from obtaining another seat in the House of Representatives.

“We have to inform the entire community that what was burned were documents such as memorandums and resumes, but the burning or destruction of electoral material is completely ruled out, because we do not have it in these facilities”, he explained.

In another section of the Fire Department report, it is established that an overload of energy in the area would have generated the conflagration.

“Any of the ‘probable causes’ that originated or could have originated this conflagration or deflagration, could be a power surge in the circuit of the area, since at that time it was raining heavily and there was a lot of lightning. This affected a transformer on a pole in a corner near the Registrar’s Office.”

Finally, it was known that the attention to the public was enabled in the Auxiliary Registry Office of the First of May, located at Calle 22 # 19-10, from Monday to Friday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm and from the House of the Justice of La Nevada, located at Calle 7 # 42-83, from Monday to Friday, from 7:00 am to 2:00 pm continuously.
