MIAMI, United States. – Cuban reggaeton singer Yosvanis Arismin Sierra Hernández, better known by his stage name, Chocolate MC, denounced in a recent interview several episodes of censorship that he suffered when he began his artistic career on the Island.

This was Chocolate MC’s first public appearance after leaving prison, where he was taken last May, after be charged with several countsincluding sexual abuse and kidnapping. The musician, who lives in the United States, expressed his surprise at the growing success of Oniel Columbié (Baby) and other cast members on the Island. “Things right now in Cuba are not the same as before. The cast is already being taken to television, to the radio, it is going to the Lucas Awards, all the cast members have roles [autorización]“, the artist commented during the YouTube show “Destino Tolk.”

The reggaeton singer also recalled the difficulties that he and other musicians faced in the past. “Those reparteros sing in Cuba and the game there is very bad.” cock. People don’t have money for food, but they do have money to pay for Bebeshito’s concert and all those kids. Those kids are being paid a lot of money. Then you realize that the dictatorship is looking the other way,” he said.

Chocolate MC also recounted how the authorities on the island persecuted him and other young singers: “When we were in Cuba we had 20 inspectors all the time, and they didn’t let us look for money. For example, I worked for a while for The Micha [Michael Fernando Sierra Miranda] They would take him down from the platforms and we would leave crying. I was the promoter and I spent seven days handing out flyers and when I got to the concert I couldn’t collect because it was suspended.”

For Chocolate MC, the current regime on the island has decided to allow the expansion of the cast: “Where are the inspectors in Cuba now? What is happening? The government allowed the real change to be made so that the national youth genre is the cast. ‘We are going to work with the cast, we are not going to fight it anymore.’ When did that happen?” he asked.

The artist also denounced the Government’s control over the current reparteros: “All the reparteros who are in Cuba singing, are obviously directed by a person X who is from the State Security. In fact, the artistic companies, Benny Moré, Adolfo Guzmán, Ignacio Piñeiro, all belong directly to Villa Marista, because police officers work there.”

Likewise, Chocolate MC recalled a particular episode related to the censorship of his music: “The cast was so banned at that time [2009-2017] that becomes a song [Chupi Chupi] where all the most influential artists sing… (I sang in Chupi Chupi and the part of the song that stuck the most was the one I sang). They put it number one in the Luke and Osmani Garcia He had to call me practically crying to tell me that he had to cut my part so they could put it in [en televisión]”That’s when I realized it was a direct attack by State Security.”
