He Government of the Dominican Republic reported yesterday that it continues to promote the process of sanitation and recovery of Sosua Beach through the demolition of empty structures located within 60 non-buildable meters, in accordance with what is established by law.
This effort – indicated in a press release from the Ministry of Tourism (Mitur) -is part of the Project of Recovery and rearrangement of Sosua Beachled by the ministry and supported by the Executing Unit for the Rehabilitation of Neighborhoods and Environments (URBE), attached to the Ministry of the Presidency, together with other institutions such as the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, the National Environmental Protection Service ( SENPA), the National Navy, the National Police, Politur and the Mayor’s Office of Sosúa.
The process began in 2021 with the survey and registration of the 208 commercial premises located within the restricted perimeter. Before proceeding with the demolitionsmeetings were held with community members to learn about their needs and characteristics of businesses in the area.
On July 24 of this year, the first checks to merchants who chose compensations economic, simultaneously with the demolition of the first structures released.
To date, more than 30 have been assigned commercial premisesdelivered 20 compensation and demolished six structures. Additionally, 30 were identified empty structureswhich are being disassembled after having been duly notified, it was indicated in the document.
This project not only seeks the environmental recovery of Sosua Beachbut also his tourist revitalization and economic, benefiting residents. As part of the plan, the construction of two shopping malls open that will guarantee the security and order of merchants, tourists and visitors, while protecting the natural resources from the beach.
The initiative, which is developed under the management of President Luis Abinaderis part of a comprehensive plan for the recovery of public spaces on the Dominican coasts, promoting the conservation of the environment and improving the quality of life of local communities.
The Puerto Plata Destination Tourism Cluster supports the rescue
He Tourist Cluster of the Destination Puerto Plata (CTDPP) expressed its full support for the actions led by the Government Dominican for recovery and rearrangement from Sosúa beach. These measures represent a fundamental step to preserve the natural resourcesrevitalize tourism and promote sustainable development for the benefit of both local communities and visitors.
The institution highlighted in a statement that it values the investment made by the Governmentas well as the inter-institutional collaboration between the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, SENPA, URBE, MITUR, the Dominican Navy, the National Police, POLITUR and the Mayor’s Office of Sosúa. These interventions aim not only to rescue an emblematic space for tourism, but also to guarantee its protection for future generations.
Birgitt Heinsenpresident of CTDPPrepresenting the board, said: “The implementation of this project will not only guarantee adequate use of the beach, but will also create safe environments and family for residents and tourists, strengthening the local economy. For this reason, from the Cluster we firmly support these initiatives and call on local authorities to maintain order in the area and ensure that these measures are implemented permanently.”
He also added: “We commit to remaining vigilant to ensure that the recovered spaces are used appropriately, respecting their purpose of preservation and development. We also urge the community to value and care for this joint effort, recognizing that only with the cooperation of “We will all be able to consolidate a renewed, sustainable and welcoming Sosúa for families and visitors.”
