The recall against the mayor of Cúcuta, Jairo Yáñez, did not prosper

The electoral day for the recall of the mayor of Cúcuta, Jairo Yañez, in which more than 616,000 citizens were authorized to vote, did not prosper.

According to official information, only 11,555 citizens went to the polls, that is, 1.87% of the electoral potential.

In favor of the revocation, 6,759 citizens voted, while 4,686 people were against. With these results, Jairo Yáñez is ratified as mayor of Cúcuta until December 31, 2023, the date on which his term ends.

The Electoral Observation Mission (EOM) through Jairo Oviedo, had warned that it was required that 130,565 citizens go out to vote and half plus one of them do so in favor of yes in order to revoke it.

Nevertheless, since the beginning of the democratic day, loneliness was observed in the polling stationssince very few people went to the polls.

Various sectors of Cúcuta criticized the recall measure, considering that the investment of 4,000 billion pesos.

Meanwhile, the mayor of Cúcuta, Jairo Yáñez, said through his Twitter account that “thank you for showing that the corrupt they won’t come back That their millions in the streets, their lies, their slanders, false news and deceptions to Cucuteños were worth nothing. The city does not believe them and that was demonstrated for the second time today.”
