The former mayor of Medellín, Daniel Quintero, announced his withdrawal from the presidential consultation of the Historical Pact scheduled for next October 26. The decision comes after the National Electoral Council (CNE) indicated that the cards They could not use the logo of this group as it was an inter-party consultation.
Through his X account, Quintero accused the organization and indicated that his departure responds to the legal risk that this adjustment would represent. “The CNE killed the Historical Pact consultation by converting it, against our will, into an interparty consultation”he indicated.
According to his statements, “The establishment wants to prevent us from participating in a large broad front on March 9” and added that “We are not going to fall into the trap.”
What the former mayor of Medellín is referring to is that if he participates this October 26, Then he will not be able to participate in the Broad Front consultation in March.
“If the consultation is interpreted as the selection of a presidential candidate, the result would be mandatory according to article 7 of Law 1475 of 2011. In this case, the winning person could not later participate in another interparty consultation, because this would constitute double militancy or non-compliance with a mandatory popular decision”points out the concept in question.
In a subsequent tweet, Quintero indicated that he submitted his formal withdrawal request to the Registry Office, emphasizing that his participation It took place within the framework of a partisan consultation and under the rules agreed with the other pre-candidates. “The process has undergone a substantial change in rules, as it has now been transformed into an inter-party consultation, which completely alters the legal and political conditions under which I assumed the commitment to participate”mentions the petition.
In that order of ideas, he also requested that, if the process continues, the votes in his name not be counted. “We are going to the elections next year. We are going to reset politics,” he concluded.
I have officially requested to the Registry that if the irregular consultation continues, my votes will not be counted by juries throughout the country. We are going to the elections next year. Let’s reset the policy. pic.twitter.com/ODNnVCCAtX
