The Minister of Tourism, David Collado, announced this Friday that the Dominican Republic was once again awarded the prize for the best stand at the FITUR 2025 tourism fair, which is being held in Madrid, Spain, and will run until this Sunday.
Collado also described the Dominican Republic’s participation in FITUR as a total success, where investments totaling US$6.75 billion were closed, considerably exceeding last year’s investments of US$350 million.
In his now traditional breakfast with the press at FITUR to take stock of the results of the country’s participation in this important world tourism fair, Minister Collado broke down what this investment will represent for the Dominican Republic and it was achieved.
He said that the Banco Popular Dominicano managed to conclude agreements for US$2,500 million, while the Reserves reached US$2,000 million.
He reported that the BHD bank also closed with agreements for US$2,000, while Proamerica achieved another US$250 million, in its first participation as a financial entity in this fair.
Minister Collado said that those US$6.75 billion will represent 7,400 new rooms, 713,000 tourists, 47,800 jobs and US$477 million in foreign currency.
“Our participation in this fair has been an extraordinary success for the Dominican Republic,” Collado stressed.
The Minister of Tourism also reported that within the framework of the fair, agreements were signed with important airlines, which will represent 500 thousand new seats for this year, only in the European market.
Among the airlines he mentioned Iberia, Air Europa, Aeroméxico and Air Transat, among others.
Minister Collado said that this year the main objective of the tourism cabinet will be air connectivity.
